I don't know about you, but I know us. I know that we take for granted every day, when we go into our children's rooms to find them smiling back at you. We take for granted their hugs and kisses. We don't mean to, but we do. Some days with your kids can be so hard and draining. You can be exhausted and feel worn out, but then you must remember what a precious gift they are, and be grateful for every morning you walk in to that room, and for every kiss. We fold their clothes and tuck them in, we wash their faces and kiss their noses, but after that, we have no control. Anything can happen at any time, any moment, a split second can steal them away from you, a freak accident, a brief illness..and... they are gone...
One of the blogs I read asked for prayers for a friend of hers. A family who's 20 month old daughter went to bed and died in her sleep. She left behind her twin sister, and he distraught parents. It just broke my heart. Even though I will never meet this family, or even know them now. The death of that little girl, only two months younger than my own, has dug a whole through my heart. It is awful and sad. It reminds me of this poem...
God's Lent Child
I'll lend you a for a little time
a child of mine, God said.
For you to love the while he lives
and mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years
or twenty-two or three.
But will you till I call him back
take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you
and shall his stay be brief.
You'll have his lovely memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay
since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn,
I've looked the wide world over
in my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life's lane
I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call
to take him back again?
I fancied that I heard them say,
"Dear Lord, thy will be done,"
For all the joy thy child will bring
the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness.
we'll love him while we may.
And for the happiness we've known,
forever grateful stay.
"But shall the angels call for him
much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes
and try to understand.

Take a moment in your day and spare a prayer for this poor family. I took today 'off ' I didn't bother with the house, and I played with my with my son and daughter. Lauren is now nestled snug in her cot sleeping, Dylan is gone to the cinema club, This poem makes me realise that all children are ' lent from God ' and he can whenever he wants, take them back again. I appreciate each day, and I thank God for allowing me this day, this moment. It's like I always say, every day, every moment, is heaven sent.
God bless this family, and may his little angel rest in peace....
