On Sunday we took our new Au pair to visit the Jeanie Jonhnston ship, it was known as a ' Famine ship' as during the famine it took over two thousand people across to Canada and the US to being their new lives. It is a replica ship built to honour such an important part of Irish history, it is said that Ireland has never fully recovered from the emigration of this era.
It is amazing to walk to decks of a ship that's most important claim is Life! It is one of the only ships that can claim that nobody every died on board... Every other ship had multiple casualties, the Jeanie Jonhnston was never called a 'coffin ship' as many of these ships became known. I thought it was very important to bring my children to see such an important part of their heritage. Our new au pair Francesca loved it too.
Even though the weather was a bit chilly and windy, we still enjoyed a lovely day walking on the grounds of Trinity College, and we had some nice lunch before walking Grafton St and watching the street performers....
Here we are!
